Smartie-Pants Jar for National Teacher Appreciation Day

Today is National Teacher Appreciation Day!  Allyson and I wanted to do something really cute for her teacher.  This is her first year in school, so we have to start the tradition of saying "Thank You" for the great work they are doing for her and her friends!

Being that I am a silly mom and like plays on words, we went with the following gift............

A photo posted by Ashley (@sweetcheeksadventures) on

This gift was super easy to make.  I grabbed the jar and 2 bags of smarties from the Dollar Tree.  The ribbon was laying around in my house and the blue paper came from our scrap bucket!  Super easy and Super cheap way to say "Thank You!"

How did you say thank you on National Teacher Appreciation Day?

Shindigz Party Supplies at our Service!

Disclosure:  I received one or more products in this post in exchange of an honest review.  All opinions are my own.

When I gathering ideas and supplies for a party, I like to head over to a party supply website knows as Shindigz!  This is exactly what I did when I was planning our DisneySide party a while back.  This year I decided on some great Mickey and Minnie Mouse products and personalized cups!  Everything was a big hit!  Take a look......

A big hit I said!  Each child in attendance had a pair of Mickey Ears.  The site has may options for Mickey Ears, so be sure to check there if you're having a Mickey Mouse party or just want to summon your DisneySide!

The food was a great hit!  To compliment out delicious sandwiches, of course there were cups!  I had them personalized to remind everyone why we were having the party.  Ordering the personalization was super easy and I love how they turned out!

What is a party without glitter tattoos?  These girls had so much fun picking out which Minnie Mouse tattoo they wanted.  Many of the girls came back for a 3rd tattoo before the party was over!

To end the party, each child got a goodie box to take home!  Special surprises awaited them!  I felt like they were perfect for the age range that we had at the party,  Some as young as 3 and as old as 6. A little something special for everyone!

Shindigz is a great place to find everything you are looking for when planning a party!  Look them up online, get your tableware personalized and party on!!

Grab your Elsa Costume at Costume Super Center -- Review

Disclosure:  I received one or more products in this post in exchange of an honest review.  All opinions are my own.

Every little girl loves to play dress up.   Even as women we love to play dress up with our every day wardrobes.  Earrings, hair color, dresses and even shoes can be a special part of our day.  That being said, I was certainly not surprised when Allyson received a special surprise from Costume Super Center and wore it for days!

Allyson is in love with dressing like Elsa from Disney's Frozen.  I am in love with the quality of this costume!  The stitching is tight and netting hasn't torn after at least 20 times of Ally being Elsa!  She thinks an appearance at dinner as well as homework time is needed.  One time she took the dress off to take a shower and put it back on afterward!

Like I mentioned above, this dress is make with great quality.  It is true to size.  I knew the sleeves would be a little baggy for Ally as most shirts are in her real size.  Any little girl would be so happy to have this costume to visit her Elsa side.  The length is great and it is easy to slip on and off.  The clasp in the back is velcro.

There are so many great accessories to go along with this costume.  An Elsa wig, shoes, wand, tiara and even an accessory bag are available for purchase!  I am thinking of pairing up the wig and shoes for Ally's Halloween Costume this year.  She'll look great and be so happy to be her favorite character, Elsa from Frozen!  Check out Costume Super Center's website and on Facebook to see what other great costumes are available.

Learning and The Game of Life -- Review

Disclosure:  I received one or more products in this post in exchange of an honest review.  All opinions are my own.

Teaching your children the rights and wrongs about life is a very important task.  We go through books, lessons, movies, conversations, and often times situations that we come out on the other side with better knowledge.  Most recently I chose to teach my 6 year old a little bit about The Game of Life!

I noticed some really interesting things as I played The Game of Life with my husband and daughter Allyson.  We each tried hard to get the best job, but when we all had to settle for not being a doctor, the game got interesting.  I noticed Ally doing a few really great things.
  • She purchased Life, Auto and Fire Insurance right away.  I loved this as I used to sell insurance and have told her a bit about being prepared for the unthinkable.
  • She bought Stock but when given the chance to gamble any part of her money, she passed on it.
  • She was given the opportunity to hand out a little bit of Revenge.  She look right into my husband's eyes and said "You didn't help me earlier, so you!  Give me your money!"
  • She passed through having an option of picking a family over money.  She chose family.

Now onto my husband's choices.  I am thinking his choices seemed almost opposite of our life because he could choose them and not go the same route.

  • He chose to save his money and buy no insurance.
  • He did purchase Stock and gambled every chance he got!
  • When given the opportunity for Revenge, he threw it at me every time.   Silly man, doesn't he know the wife remembers all?
  • He ended the game with the biggest family!  In reality, he is happy with the family we have now.  He couldn't resist adding on more babies into that car though!

We have been playing The Game of Life quite frequently as it is Allyson's new favorite.  It's been a great way for her to learn about money and I enjoy watching her make the big decisions for her family.

Show your #DisneySide with a Party!

Today's post is part of a campaign by Disney Parks and MomSelect.  Thank you so much for choosing my family to share our DisneySide with the world!

Every chance we get to have the kid's friends over, I jump on it!  Most recently we enjoyed our #DisneySide party.  Disney sent us a package to get started!  Our theme this year was Mickey Mouse so I decided to add a little bit of Minnie for the girls!  I'm glad I did!  The girls loved the two of them together just as much as I do!

The Disney package we received was fill with some really great goodies!  Mickey Mouse plates, decorations, cute nail polishes, Palace Pets and games!  Everything you might need to get a party started!

Inside this box was also a box of Duff Tie Dye cake mix!  I decided to use this for cupcakes!  They're turned out delicious and so very cute!

The kids had a great time just being silly, eating, getting tattoos and being silly all over again!  The lunch menu consisted of Honey Ham Hawaiian Sandwiches, so many flavors of Utz chips for everyone to choose from, juice boxes and of course Mickey Ear Cupcakes!

Fun times were had by all!  After everyone had a chance to wind down from the food and craziness, we broke out the photo frame and caught some really great pictures!

How do you show your DisneySide?  Parties? Shirts? Do you walk around singing the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse song?  Tell me below!

Wow Summit 2014 -- Such a Fabulous Experience!

I was recently given the opportunity to go an event called WOW Summit.  This even is hosted by Mom's Meet.  Mom's Meet is an online community that connects Moms with eco-friendly brands.  Then allows them to gather with their Moms in their local communities to spread the word about great products!  While this sounds like a huge and very fun thing to participate in, it is just a small part of what Mom's Meet is about!  I urge you to take a look for yourself and join us!

Now that you've looked at what Mom's Meet is about, let me tell you about the great time I had at WOW Summit 2014.  First lets discuss the name.  WOW is MOM upside down.  How rockin' is that?!  That alone makes me feel like a wonderful mom!  We do it all, right?  Sometimes we need to be reminded that, WOW!  We are doing a great job, even if it is the best that we can.

I had such a wonderful time!  While I was a little nervous about leaving the husband and kids at home, once I got into Orlando and settled in the most beautiful hotel Caribe Royale, I let my worries fall away!  I was there to learn, recharge and become a better Woman and Mother!

Recharge is exactly what I did.  I met some great people.  Not everyone at the Summit was a blogger.  Some were just Moms looking for a way to make themselves a little better.  They were there, just like I was, searching for the missing piece.   While I was at this event by myself, I was lucky enough to connect with a fellow blogger that I have never met before, on the first day.  Sharon said "Hello" and we stuck together the whole weekend!

Along with Sharon, I was able to meet a few ladies that live in my same city!  This is huge for me as I am new to the area and was starting to feel a little alone.  I'm not alone any longer!

Beyond making friendships that have lasted, I learned about some great brands and reconnected with a few brands you've seen reviews from before on this site!  Brands like Zevia, EnviroKidz, Suja, Canyon Bakehouse, National Geographic Kids, Smart Flour Foods, Applegate, and Maty's Healthy Products just to name a few!  So many great people and brands to talk with.

While the Summit had so many great brands to learn about, there were featured speakers as well.  I learned a few new things about being Gluten Free, tips to change a few things that I'm feeling my family, and ultimately was reminded to pay attention to life before it passes me by.  I even jumped out of my box a little and shared a small piece of me with one of the speakers, Suzy Stauffer.  If you know me personally, you know I don't share my personal struggles with too many people, too often.  Suzy spoke about her business, Beyond the Bust Stop and shared her struggles.  There were so many times I needed a tissue while listening to her because it was like she was saying aloud how I feel at times.  At the end of her presentation, she gave out a book.  A book that I have no doubt I will pick up from time to time and learn all over again how to appreciate myself as a Woman and Mother.

Alongside Suzy Stauffer, the other speakers were Robyn O'Brien, Aviva Goldfarb, Traci Paige Johnson, Heather White, and Dr. Susan Bartell.   Each lady had their own topic to help the audience recharge and learn more beyond wiping behinds.  We talked about great new recipes, steps to live healthier and happier lives, and of course it was a pleasure to hear the voice of Blue's Clues!

If you have a chance to attend WOW Summit in the new few years, I urge you to jump on it!  It's a great way to meet new friends, learn more about brands and ways to live a healthier life, and recharge as a Woman and Mother!

If you aren't a part of Mom's Meet, search no further.  Press those fingers down and join in on the fun today!  You never know what products you might discover that you just can't live without.

Batty Pops and Pumpkin Bells for Halloween! -- Mrs. Freshley's

**Thank you to Mrs. Freshley's for sponsoring today's FUN post!  Happy Halloween!

Any time I can get myself and my daughter in the kitchen for a little fun, I jump on it.  Halloween may be all about the goblins, candy and pumpkins, but that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun in the kitchen!  Mrs. Freshley's has given us a chance to have a special moment and have tasty treats this Halloween!

The lovely folks over at Mrs. Freshley's asked Ally and I to recreate 2 Halloween treats for you!  We had so much fun!  Who wouldn't have fun with Pumpkin Bells and Batty Pops?

So cute, right?  Please excuse the chocolate on Ally's face!  She clearly had fun tasting while decorating.

Pumpkin Bells

Ingredients needed:

  • Mrs. Freshley's Chocolate Bells
  • Orange Frosting (I made my own, but you could purchase vanilla and add orange food coloring)
  • Confectioners' Sugar
  • Orange and Green Decorating Sugar or Sprinkles
  • Green Licorice pieces or small chocolate bar
  • Toothpicks
Turn the Chocolate Bells with a larger side facing up.  Apply the frosting onto the Chocolate Bells, with more frosting toward the center to make a pumpkin shape.  Roll the icing pumpkin in the orange decorating sugar or sprinkles until fully covered.  Use a toothpick to draw lines in the pumpkin, making textured sections.  Cut a two-inch section of green licorice or chocolate bar and insert it in the top of the pumpkin making the stem.  Should you use licorice, use a few smaller pieces to use as pumpkin vines.

Allyson and I found this very easy to complete.  We went with the chocolate bar instead of licorice simply because she said it would be better to add a little chocolate to it.  More chocolate to the Chocolate Bells?  Crazy kid!

Batty Pops

Ingredients Needed:

  • Mrs. Freshley's Peanut Butter Flavored Swiss Rolls
  • Popsicle/lollipop sticks
  • Wax Paper
  • 1 package chocolate candy bark/candy melts
  • Piping Bag
  • Large Yogurt Chips
  • Toothpicks
Insert one popsicle stick in each of the Peanut Butter  Swiss Roll and place in the freezer too harden.  Draw a stencil of the wing shape on a piece of wax paper; be sure to make the wings wide enough to accommodate the Swiss Roll..  Melt a portion of the chocolate candy bark or melts and pour into a piping bag with a small tip.  Pipe out the outline of the bat wings.  In the center of the wings pip a chocolate rectangle approximately the size of the Swiss Roll..  Place the Swiss Roll on the chocolate rectangle and put in the freezer to harden (3-5 minutes).  Keep the bat on the wax paper for this.  Remove bats from the freezer, use a little chocolate to place the large yogurt chips on the bat for eyes, put the pointed side of the chip into the Swiss Rolls.  Use a toothpick and chocolate candy bark to apply pupils on the fl side of the yogurt chips to finish the eyes.  Use the chocolate candy park to pipe the mouth and gangs.  Allow the bat pops to set and then serve!

These were my favorite to do!  So much fun drawing with chocolate!!  Above you can see Ally's masterpiece.  We did have a bit of trouble keeping the wings from breaking as we lifted them from the wax paper.   This was not the issue with the bat I made.   I'd say the size of the wings does matter in your Batty Pop!

Any time chocolate is involved, the men in our house come running, so it was a bit hard keeping their fingers away long enough for pictures.  My family have been gobbling up the Peanut Butter Flavored Swiss Rolls like these things are the next greatest thing, so head to the store and grab some for your Batty Pops!  SO CUTE!!!!

Nature Scavenger Hunt

As a family, we really enjoy spending time outside.  This may be time sitting in the run while reading a book, playing in the sprinkler, going for a run, and most recently doing a Nature Scavenger Hunt!

A Nature Scavenger Hunt was something I've always wanted to do with my children.  Even when Allyson was a very small Little, I had visions of taking her along a trail and pointing out there awesome things to see and find!  I waited patiently for her little hands and feet to get bigger, so she could carry herself and mark off the list by herself.  It was so worth the wait when I got to see the excitement on her face when she was finding  one thing after another!

Making the list was super easy.  I included some fun things from my own trips out into nature and a few harder ones that I would be super excited if she managed to find them.
  • Spider Web
  • Pink Flower
  • Frog
  • Bee
  • Yellow Flower
  • Lady Bug
  • Circular Shaped Rock
  • Butterfly
  • Something Beautiful
  • Snail
  • Stick in a "Y" shape
  • Something Smooth
  • Man-made Litter
The list went on with about 10 more items, but you get my point!  At first when Ally found out Spider Web was on the list, she was a little scared.  Getting her out into nature to see all of the different webs, flowers, bugs, etc was all it took to get her looking deep down and finding all the beauty that is around us.

Next time you are sitting around, wondering what to do with a beautiful Spring day, make a quick Nature Scavenger Hunt for you and your Little to enjoy!  It'll be great to get out and moving, and think of the memories!

Mother/Daughter Day at Paulus Orchard

Every once in a while, I plan to spend a day with each child.  One-on-One.  I had the chance to take Allyson on our first Mother/Daughter Day while the Husband stayed home with Cooper and watched football all day.  When I told Ally she and I were going to go somewhere, she asked if Cooper would need a nap before we went.  This made me a little sad.  My little girl is growing up way too fast, worrying about our normal routine, and if her brother is taken care of.  So, when I told her that Cooper was going to nap while we were gone, she got super excited!  You would have thought the little 20 minute trip to the Paulus Apple Orchard took 2 hours the way she was bouncing around, of course asking "Are we there YET?!"
The orchard we decided on can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/PaulusOrchards.

Much to Ally's surprise, there was a HUGE play area for her to run and have fun.  Fun for her... Just her!  Of course there were tons of other kids. Kids with their parents, kids with their siblings, and even a birthday party or 2 going on.  Normally I would have watched her stand on the sidelines and just watch the other kids.  She'd gingerly climb the ladder for the slide, and then hesitate before going down.  Not anymore, Ladies and Gentleman!  My little girl was out there!  She wasn't afraid of anything or anyone in front of her!  She went down a slide bigger than I personally have ever gone down! She climbed inside a wooden structure, only to slide down another slide! She explored in this fun blown up tube!  She also was brave and rode in this cow while a tractor pulled all of it's cow friends around the play area!

After an hour of running, sliding, jumping and riding she decided she was ready for Apple Picking!  This part was my favorite.  I'd never been Apple Picking before.  The little girl inside me was jumping up and down too!  We grabbed the bag we purchased and headed for the apple trees!  The apples advertised to be available for picking were Red Delicious and Golden Delicious.  To my surprise, Jonathon Apples were ready as well!

We had a blast!  Picking the best apples for us, reaching as high as we could to get the biggest ones! The biggest ones are the sweetest, right? *wink, wink*  We discussed what we should do with all of these delicious apples while picking them.  Allyson said we were going to eat them all before we got home.  I told her we should save some for Apple Butter!  YUMMM!   Eventually the taller grass started tickling Ally's legs, so I had to carry her a bit, but that was a small price to pay for the smiles on her face.
A nice Wagon Ride ended our time at the Paulus Orchard.  I think next time we'll bring the boys along, but I loved spending time with my little girl!

Home Grown Rock Candy!

Do you LOVE Rock Candy!?

I remember as a younger girl my best friend would always eat this stuff.  You could find candy of all kinds in her room, bookbag, car, wherever!  If you were wanting something sweet, she was the one to go to.  One candy she had the most was always Rock Candy!!  We'd go to our candy store at the mall and she'd always buy some Rock Candy, even if it wasn't the reason we went there..

How exciting is it that I am leading you into the light with these are directions.
I have been lead there by another blog, so show some love.. We are so very thankful!
