The Perfect Holiday Snack: Muddy Buddy Chex Mix

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Chex™. The opinions and text are all my own.

Ever year around Christmas time, I spend some extra time in the kitchen!  Usually I let Allyson join me but this year I decided I'd make the kids a little treat while they are at school.  It worked out great for me because the mess I made with the powdered sugar was.... Well, let's just say that I'm pretty sure I have it mixed in my hair somehow.

I have to take a second before we get into mixing everything and tell you about Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios™. Prior to making this recipe, I had not tried them.  So much yumm!  They're going to be my new go-to Cheerios from here on out!  Mixed in with Chex™, and it's even better!  I've got so many ideas going through my head with these 2 products!

Mixing up this recipe is really easy and quite a bit fun.  Muddy Buddies™ Chex Mix will be a hit at all of your holiday parties and even a great snack for late night television watching.  This recipe makes quite a bit, so divide it up!  Some for this party... that party... and Ooo, for you too!

Alrighty, let's get to the reason for this post.  Muddy Buddies Time! Laid out in a few steps, you'll have a delicious batch of Muddy Buddies before you know it.

2.  Measure out your cereals in a large bowl.  In this recipe you'll notice the 2 different cereals.  Mix them together for your best result.
3. Measure out your chocolate chips, butter/margarine, and peanut butter.  Place in microwaveable bowl and melt. --This took about 30 seconds.  Stir until melted consistency.
4. Mix in your vanilla with your chocolate mixture.
5. Divide your cereal in 2 large Ziploc bags.
6. Divide your chocolate mixture into both bags.
7. Add half of the required powdered sugar to each bag.
8. Seal bags, leaving a little air and space.
9. Shake and mix well!  Watch for chocolate clumps.

When you have everything all mixed up, you'll add in the peanut butter cups and peanuts.   Pour your mixtures back into a large bowl.

Mix gently with a spoon and you'll find the end result very delicious!  I mean, who doesn't want to eat this mixture?  People have been making it for year and years!  You're going to be a big hit at the party when you show up with this mix!

I cannot get over how awesome my Muddy Buddies Chex Mix tastes! If I had any self control, I'd save some for the kids. It might be gone by the time they are home from school! Shhh, they'll never know it was for them if we don't tell them, right? So, hurry! Grab your coupon and rush off to your local Publix store.

What is your favorite treat of the season?

Family BBQ Style: Southwest Corn Dip

Another part of the the Friends and Family BBQ Blowout Event was the food!  A big part of course!  We were able to team up with Ritz Crackers to make the day perfect!  Bacon Ritz Crackers that is!  Who doesn't love bacon, right?

I bet you're wondering what we paired with these delicious crackers.  Maybe you're thinking Ritz crackers are fine on their own.  Either way, take a look at this recipe.  So delicious and just barely worthy for a Bacon Ritz Cracker to be dunked in!

Southwest Corn Dip

This dip is so easy to make!  Simply throw everything in the bowl and mix!  You won't be upset with the end result!

1 can of Rotel
2 cans of Jalapeno Spicy Corn
1/2 cup Sour Cream
1/2 cup Mayo
2 cups of Cheddar Cheese

If you don't fancy a dip when you eat crackers, these Bacon Ritz are perfect by themselves!  When I asked my daughter what one snack she'd enjoy in the car, her answer was "those bacon crackers in the red box!"

What are you waiting for?  Head out and grab a box already!  They're too delicious to be missing out on!

Saucy Chicken Wings

Chicken is a staple in my house.  I personally eat chicken 4-5 times a week for dinner.  I just love chicken.  A favorite is chicken wings.  They're saucy!  They're delicious!  They're perfect size to fit in your hand!  While the husband is not a fan of chicken on the bone, that is just fine....  More for me that way!

With so many reason to make some delicious chicken wings, let the big game be one of them.   Now, when I say big game, I'm good with the Super Bowl, Saturday morning college football, or the bowling championships.  Whatever have you... just make these wings!

Ingredients needed:
20 Chicken Wings
1/2 cup flour (I used a half and half mixture of Gluten Free All Purpose flour and corn starch)
1/2 cup wing sauce
1/4 tsp. Paprika
1/2 tsp. Red Cayenne Pepper
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Pepper
1 1/2 tsp. melted butter
1/2 tsp. minced garlic

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Mix your dry ingredients.  Dip your chicken in your melted butter.  Cover the chicken in your dry mixture.  Place on baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes.  Flip your chicken over and cook for 10 more minutes or until all pink is gone.

At time of flipping you can put your wing sauce on your chicken and let it bake in a bit.  I LOVE saucy wings, so I put a little extra sauce on when I pull them out of the oven.  Sauce and Done!  So delicious!  These wing pair great with Ranch or Blue Cheese dressing.   Don't forget the celery!

Teddy Bear Mix Bags

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of being part of a so very cute Teddy Bear Tea Party!  It was an event for our local Girl Scout Council.  So fun but a lot of work to get ready.   I made little snack bags for each girl in attendance.  They were a big hit and something nice to go home with their patch.

These bags were very easy to put together.  The worst part?  Tying the ribbon at the end.  Just about anyone can do this and if you have a partner, even better!

I started the whole thing by pulling out my Cocoa Puffs, mini marshmallows and Teddy Grahams.  You could do this with any kind of cereal or flavors of grahams.   We chose to stick with a s'mores type of flavor as it was a Girl Scout event!

Now comes the fun part.  Cutting out your tulle.  We used purple and light blue tulle, which looked great with the color scheme going on in the room. I was lucky enough to have my tulle wrapped around the fabric board.  I used that as a guide to make sure all of my pieces were the same size.

I used a heaping tablespoon worth of mix for the inside of the bags.  I found that this amount could be less or more, just depending on your preference.  This amount worked best for us.

Simply twist the tulle to assure the mix will not fall out after bunching the sides together.  Grab the ribbon and tie the bow.   I think next time I'll use a little extra ribbon and curl the ends for effect.

The girls loved these little bags and I loved how easy they were to make.  Perfect for any kind of party for young and old!

Ingredients used:
 Cocoa Puffs
Mini Marshallows
Birthday Teddy Grahams
Tulle
Ribbon

What mixture would you use?

Family Friendly Applesauce BBQ Ribs

Disclosure:  I received one or more products in this post in exchange of an honest review.  All opinions are my own.  This post contains affiliate links.

I come from a decently large family.  Most holidays we get together to celebrate with a large meal. On the best times, someone is manning the grill outside!  Oh how I love me some BBQ!  I am from Kansas, ya know!  My love of BBQ lead me to working with Zaycon Fresh.  They have great varieties of meat and most recently I've fallen in love with their pork ribs.

My new love of Zaycon Fresh's ribs lead me to this creation.  It is really easy and I recommend it to everyone I know!  Heck, I'll recommend it to you and chances that I've never met you face to face are big!

Like I said, Applesauce BBQ ribs are super easy and SUPER delicious!  It's a matter of making the rub, breaking out the crock pot and waiting.  The waiting is the hardest part.  Oh the AGONY!!

Ingredients needed for Applesauce BBQ Ribs:
  • Zaycon Pork Ribs
  • BBQ Ribs Rub
  • Applesauce
  • BBQ Sauce

My Applesauce BBQ Ribs Rub:
  • Minced Onion
  • Season Salt
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Chili Powder
Throw all of these seasonings into a bowl and mix together.  Equal parts of each, except the Chili Powder unless you'd like to burn your face off.   Lay out your rack of ribs (you'll find the delicious Zaycon Fresh Pork Ribs above) and rub your mixture into the meat.  So delicious!  I like to massage it in a little bit to make sure the flavor will be absorbed while cooking.

Once you've rubbed your ribs to your liking, I chopped my rack into quarters so it would fit in my crock pot.  I find it does not effect the end result in any way to do this.

Stack your ribs in the slow cooker, but before going to the next level, spread applesauce over the top.  You don't need to have a ton of applely-goo on top, but be sure to cover it.  Resume your stacking of the ribs until the slow cooker is full or you run out of ribs.   I have done this with regular applesauce and cinnamon applesauce.  Either is a nice treat!

Leave your slow cooker to do all of the work at this point.  Cook on high for about 6 hours.  The applesauce and ribs will come together in marriage.  The best marriage, I tell you!  After the longest 6 hours of your life, you'll find something like this.

Whew!  Grab those babies out of that slow cooker and either slap them on the grill or in a oven approved dish.  Cover with BBQ sauce and pull off when you think necessary.  If you're putting them in the oven, I went another 30 minutes to let the BBQ sauce really sink in!

I have made this recipe 4 times now and it just gets better and better every time!  The meat falls off the bone and the ribs are full of flavor!  Perfect for a BBQ meal for a holiday, a Sunday Family meal, or simply because you want bbq ribs!  Whatever the occasion, check out Zaycon Fresh because oh my Goodness, their ribs are top notch!

Zaycon Fresh has so many more options than Ribs.  They have CHICKEN, SAUSAGE, BEEF, STEAKS and many many more options!  Connect with them on social media and order your next lot of meat.  You won't be disappointed.

Gotron's Shrimp Scampi with Noodles

A Special Thank You to Gorton's Fish for sending me coupons for free product.

I've always been one to try new foods.  When it comes to eating seafood, I have to be in the mood.  Lately I've been in the mood, maybe its the salt water at the beach telling me it's time to have some shrimp, but anyway - I came up with a delicious dish I can enjoy with my family and rave about to you!

This recipe was super easy to put together.  Follow the directions on the Gorton's Shrimp Scampi box.  Add a little pasta and garnish with chopped tomatoes!  Then kablam!  A delicious dinner!

Ingredients Needed:

Gorton's Shrimp Scampi
Gluten Free Spaghetti Noodles
Water
Chopped Tomatoes for Garnish

This has been a go-to dinner for me lately.  I am a lover of pasta, but adding a bit of shrimp and a delicious sauce seems to liven up that pasta and make me want to back for more and more!  The garlic butter sauce really does complete the whole dish.  The recipe takes about 10 minutes and can feed the family!  You'll see smiles and hands rubbing bellies for sure!

What do you like to pair up with Shrimp?

Best Blender Salsa over Quinoa

Whether you are Mexican or not, Cinco de Mayo is a fun day to eat your favorite Mexican dish!  This year I wanted to share my favorite with you!  What's more is I get to share my favorite appliance in my kitchen with you again as well.

Many a night in my home, I am making myself dinner.  Making a dinner different than what the rest of the family is eating as I am Gluten Free.  A quick boil of Quinoa and some of this delicious salsa make for a perfect meal for me.  Light in calorie and heavy on flavor!

This salsa is so easy to make.  The hardest part is getting everything at the store.  After lugging around a 3 year old who wants to buy everything with bright colors and eat all the candy before the cashier can check you out is definitely the hardest part about this whole recipe!  So, let's get to it!

Best Blender Salsa

Ingredients:
2 10-ounce cans whole peeled, tomatoes
1 white onion, peeled and quartered
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded
1 canned chipotle pepper in adobo
2 tablespoons adobo sauce
1 bunch cilantro, stems removed
1 lime, peeled, quartered
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Container: 72-ounce Pitcher to your Nutri Ninja Blender.
1. Place all of the ingredients into the 72-ounce Pitcher in the order listed, starting with tomatoes.
2. Turn unit ON and hold down "Auto-iQTM PULSE" until desired consistency is achieved

I love this salsa over a bed of quinoa and garnished with a few slices of avocado.  Prepare the quinoa according to the directions.  Drizzle a few spoons of Best Blender Salsa over the top.  Add your slices of avocado to the top.  I like to cut them up to have a few bits in each bite.

What is your favorite food to pair with salsa?

Smoothies!! Brought to you by the Nutri Ninja Blender!

Disclosure: I received one or more products in this post in exchange of an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Lately it seems smoothies are becoming even more popular.  Smoothie Bars have popped up on every corner in the big city and everyone has their favorite.  My favorite combo is a few strawberries and a banana!  You can't go wrong with Strawberry Banana Smoothies!  You are agreeing with me and probably nodding your head "YES!" right now!

While going to the smoothie shop every day is not cost effective, I have been blessed with a chance to bring you guys are review on the Nutri Ninja Blender!  There are so many great things you can produce with this machine, but today we're going to discuss... Smoothies!
While there are a few models on the market, I chose to give the Nutri Ninja Auto-iQ a test drive! This model has the abilities of Nutrient and Vitamin Extraction and the Total Crushing Technology. I like to add nuts for an extra boost into my smoothies, so you can see why I'd want that Total Crushing Technology! Plus, I like to use frozen fruit in my smoothie to make a slushy consistency! Smoothies are better cold, after all. If you don't agree with that, I urge you to order a smoothie from a street vendor in Time Square. No ice and warm fruits are not a good mix.

The Auto-iQ is a perfect machine for me.  Before I had a chance to meet my new friend, I was told Ninja is the Mercedes in the Blender World.  This is a perfect explanation of the greatness that is Ninja.   I love it!  The Auto-iQ blends, purees, pulses, goes for the amount of time specified and you end up with a delicious product!

Cleanup is easy too!  The very scary blade (watch your fingers!!) sits in the pitcher easily and does it's job.  Don't forget to remove it when finished blending though.  It will likely fall out while you're pouring your delicious smoothie into it's glass.  That's a mess that just isn't needed!  Easy removal and easy clean up!

Fruit Salad Smoothie

1.5 cups Frozen strawberries pineapple, and peaches mix
.75 cup grapes -- fresh
.25 cup blueberries -- frozen
1 medium banana -- fresh
2 cups cold water
10 whole cashews

On my Ninja Blender, I run the "Frozen Drinks Smoothies" button.  Simple enough, right!?  Just throw in the ingredients, put the lid on top, and press the button.  It will pulse and mix around the fruits to make a delicious smoothie for you to enjoy!

If you have been thinking about getting a Ninja Blender and just haven't jumped on that purchase yet, do it!   I love mine and I'm sure you'll love yours as well.

While I really enjoy drinking the smoothie I've just told you about, I have a few favorites I'd like to share with you!

Harley Pasternak's Breakfast Smoothie
PB + J Smoothie
Raspberry Sunrise Smoothie

Check out Ninja online and be sure to keep your eye open in stores!  Follow on social media too!

Lover's Holiday Desserts with Mrs. Freshley's

**Thank you to Mrs. Freshley's for sponsoring today's FUN post!  Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day is a day to spend showing your "Sweet" just how much you love and appreciate them!  If you are not with anyone you may see as your "Sweet", you might see this holiday as pointless.  I am here to share a few treats with you, so you'll feel great whether you have a "Sweet" or not!  Mrs. Freshley's knows just how to fill you belly and warm your heart this Valentine's Day!

Making these treats was a lot of fun.  I had no problem assembling them and my husband and children had no problem eating them.  The neighbor kids must have known I was putting together some goodies because they came running too.

My favorite to make was Valentine's Dreamies.  These take a tiny bit of prep work, but so worth it!

Valentine's Dreamies

Ingredients Needed:

  • 8 strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 Mrs. Freshley's Dreamies
Combine cut strawberries, sugar and vanilla in medium bowl.  Set in refrigerator for at least an hour to allow the juices to come out of strawberries and make a delicious sauce!  Slice Mrs. Freshley's Dreamies diagonally and place them in a heart shape.  Top the Dreamies with strawberries and sauce.  If you desire, drizzle with chocolate syrup to add a little something extra special!

Conversation Cremes

Ingredients Needed:

Mrs. Freshley's Fudge or Oatmeal Cremes
Heart and letter stencils
Powdered sugar
Sifter

Place Stencil on top of a Mrs. Freshley's Oatmeal or Fudge creme.  Sift some powdered sugar over the stencil and Creme.  Remove the stencil, revealing the beautiful design!

Chocolate Lovers Kabobs

Ingredients Needed:
  • 8 Mrs. Freshley's Chocolate Bells, halved.
  • 1 Package of strawberries, hulled
  • 1 Package of marshmallows
  • 1 Package wooden skewers
  • Melting Chocolate (I used Almond Bark)
Dip strawberries in chocolate.  Place one halved Mrs. Freshley's Chocolate Bells on a wooden skewer.  Next place one strawberry, followed by one marshmallow.  Repeat steps until skewers are full.  Prepare melting chocolate according to package and drizzle over kabobs.

These treats are so sweet and perfect for Valentine's Day!  They're so easy to assemble and so fun to eat.  Whip these up and share with your "Sweet" on this Holiday of Love.

Decorating Holiday Treats -- Mrs. Freshley's Holiday Recipes

**Thank you to Mrs. Freshley's for sponsoring today's FUN post!  Happy Holidays!

There are so many fun things to do in your Christmas Kitchen!  Every year my husband requests these special oat cookies that I can't manage to get correct.  Only his mom can make them right!  After 7 years of making these things, you'd think I would get them right, but nope.  They always end up a nice mess of chocolate gooey sludge.   While I'll leave the oat cookies to my Mother in Law, I have enlisted Mrs. Freshley's on a few projects I am sure to not mess up!  Allyson even helped me out a bit with these cute treats!

What we have here is Holiday Donut Sticks, Frosty Donuts, and Merry Berry Honey Bun Trifle.  Every bit of this picture looks so yummy!  Before I try to eat these treats through my monitor, let's get on with how to make them for your family!

Holiday Donut Sticks

Ingredients Needed:
  • 1 Family Pack of Mrs. Freshley's Donut Sticks
  • 2 cups of melted chocolate (I used Almond Bark)
  • Holiday Sprinkles
Melt your chocolate according to the package directions in a medium bowl.  Dip each Donut stick halfway into the bowl of melted chocolate until fully coated.  Garnish with holiday sprinkles and let cool.

Frosty Donuts

Ingredients Needed:
  • 1 Family Pack of Mrs. Freshley's Mini Donuts
  • 1 Bag of Candy Corn
  • Vanilla Icing
  • 1 Bag of mini chocolate chips
  • 1 Bag of mini candy coated chocolate
  • Red licorice
  • Small peppermint sticks
Stack three Mini Donuts on top of one another with the donuts lying horizontally.  Press the large end of a candy corn piece into the hole of a fourth donut.  Use vanilla icing to adhere mini chocolate chips to the same donut for the snowman's eyes and mouth.  Place the decorated donut vertically on top of the stack of three, creating the snowman's body and head.  Next, use vanilla icing to adhere three candy coated chocolates to the snowman for buttons.  Finally, cut a piece of licorice to use for the snowman's scarf and insert two peppermint sticks for arms.

Merry Berry Honey Bun Trifle

Ingredients Needed:

  • 10 Mrs. Freshley's Honey Buns
  • 1 Pint strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 Pints raspberries
  • 3/4 Cups of Sugar
  • 3 Tsp. of vanilla extract
  • 1 Tub frozen whipped topping, thawed
Cut Honey Buns into bite size pieces, put aside.  Mix strawberries, raspberries, sugar and vanilla extract in medium bowl.  Layer Honey Buns in glass serving dish, followed by berry mixture, then whipped topping.  Repeat layers until serving dish is full.  Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving.

Allyson and I had SO MUCH FUN putting together these treats!  Mrs. Freshley's makes to best snacks and they're so easy to make into a perfect little snowman, or even a trifle!  As Christmas gets closer, get to your local store because Mrs. Freshley's will make your holiday a little less stressful and a little more sweet, for sure!

Batty Pops and Pumpkin Bells for Halloween! -- Mrs. Freshley's

**Thank you to Mrs. Freshley's for sponsoring today's FUN post!  Happy Halloween!

Any time I can get myself and my daughter in the kitchen for a little fun, I jump on it.  Halloween may be all about the goblins, candy and pumpkins, but that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun in the kitchen!  Mrs. Freshley's has given us a chance to have a special moment and have tasty treats this Halloween!

The lovely folks over at Mrs. Freshley's asked Ally and I to recreate 2 Halloween treats for you!  We had so much fun!  Who wouldn't have fun with Pumpkin Bells and Batty Pops?

So cute, right?  Please excuse the chocolate on Ally's face!  She clearly had fun tasting while decorating.

Pumpkin Bells

Ingredients needed:

  • Mrs. Freshley's Chocolate Bells
  • Orange Frosting (I made my own, but you could purchase vanilla and add orange food coloring)
  • Confectioners' Sugar
  • Orange and Green Decorating Sugar or Sprinkles
  • Green Licorice pieces or small chocolate bar
  • Toothpicks
Turn the Chocolate Bells with a larger side facing up.  Apply the frosting onto the Chocolate Bells, with more frosting toward the center to make a pumpkin shape.  Roll the icing pumpkin in the orange decorating sugar or sprinkles until fully covered.  Use a toothpick to draw lines in the pumpkin, making textured sections.  Cut a two-inch section of green licorice or chocolate bar and insert it in the top of the pumpkin making the stem.  Should you use licorice, use a few smaller pieces to use as pumpkin vines.

Allyson and I found this very easy to complete.  We went with the chocolate bar instead of licorice simply because she said it would be better to add a little chocolate to it.  More chocolate to the Chocolate Bells?  Crazy kid!

Batty Pops

Ingredients Needed:

  • Mrs. Freshley's Peanut Butter Flavored Swiss Rolls
  • Popsicle/lollipop sticks
  • Wax Paper
  • 1 package chocolate candy bark/candy melts
  • Piping Bag
  • Large Yogurt Chips
  • Toothpicks
Insert one popsicle stick in each of the Peanut Butter  Swiss Roll and place in the freezer too harden.  Draw a stencil of the wing shape on a piece of wax paper; be sure to make the wings wide enough to accommodate the Swiss Roll..  Melt a portion of the chocolate candy bark or melts and pour into a piping bag with a small tip.  Pipe out the outline of the bat wings.  In the center of the wings pip a chocolate rectangle approximately the size of the Swiss Roll..  Place the Swiss Roll on the chocolate rectangle and put in the freezer to harden (3-5 minutes).  Keep the bat on the wax paper for this.  Remove bats from the freezer, use a little chocolate to place the large yogurt chips on the bat for eyes, put the pointed side of the chip into the Swiss Rolls.  Use a toothpick and chocolate candy bark to apply pupils on the fl side of the yogurt chips to finish the eyes.  Use the chocolate candy park to pipe the mouth and gangs.  Allow the bat pops to set and then serve!

These were my favorite to do!  So much fun drawing with chocolate!!  Above you can see Ally's masterpiece.  We did have a bit of trouble keeping the wings from breaking as we lifted them from the wax paper.   This was not the issue with the bat I made.   I'd say the size of the wings does matter in your Batty Pop!

Any time chocolate is involved, the men in our house come running, so it was a bit hard keeping their fingers away long enough for pictures.  My family have been gobbling up the Peanut Butter Flavored Swiss Rolls like these things are the next greatest thing, so head to the store and grab some for your Batty Pops!  SO CUTE!!!!
