Learning and The Game of Life -- Review

Disclosure:  I received one or more products in this post in exchange of an honest review.  All opinions are my own.

Teaching your children the rights and wrongs about life is a very important task.  We go through books, lessons, movies, conversations, and often times situations that we come out on the other side with better knowledge.  Most recently I chose to teach my 6 year old a little bit about The Game of Life!

I noticed some really interesting things as I played The Game of Life with my husband and daughter Allyson.  We each tried hard to get the best job, but when we all had to settle for not being a doctor, the game got interesting.  I noticed Ally doing a few really great things.
  • She purchased Life, Auto and Fire Insurance right away.  I loved this as I used to sell insurance and have told her a bit about being prepared for the unthinkable.
  • She bought Stock but when given the chance to gamble any part of her money, she passed on it.
  • She was given the opportunity to hand out a little bit of Revenge.  She look right into my husband's eyes and said "You didn't help me earlier, so you!  Give me your money!"
  • She passed through having an option of picking a family over money.  She chose family.

Now onto my husband's choices.  I am thinking his choices seemed almost opposite of our life because he could choose them and not go the same route.

  • He chose to save his money and buy no insurance.
  • He did purchase Stock and gambled every chance he got!
  • When given the opportunity for Revenge, he threw it at me every time.   Silly man, doesn't he know the wife remembers all?
  • He ended the game with the biggest family!  In reality, he is happy with the family we have now.  He couldn't resist adding on more babies into that car though!

We have been playing The Game of Life quite frequently as it is Allyson's new favorite.  It's been a great way for her to learn about money and I enjoy watching her make the big decisions for her family.

  2. Oh I love the concept of this game. This would definitely be a good one to have for the family with small kids. I like how interactive your daughter is.
